I had my first Tarot card reading from a belly dancer

at a dimly lit hole in the wall Moroccan restaurant off of Gaffey St in San Pedro, CA when I was 17. It was exactly how you would have imagined it. We were sitting on some pillows at our dinner table. Drapes hung from the ceiling separating other eating parties. The woman jingled over to me after her performance with a tray in her hand and the cards on top of them, “You want a reading?” I was intrigued. I looked at my aunt and uncle and they gave me a drunken nod of approval.

I pondered her interpretation a lot when I left. I pondered it for years. The message was no coincidence. She didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know but it was very affirming for me. It gave me a sense of relief that I wasn’t just fumbling through life, there’s a purpose to all of this and maybe it was already written for me.

I grew up in a very conservative Christian household where we would refer to our beliefs as “the truth”. Through those teachings, practices of the occult, paganism, and anything relative to divination were heavily frowned upon (obviously), which made all of those things that much more enticing to me.

In 2019, I experienced a spiritual break through and found Khaos Magick. I deconditioned all of my former beliefs and learned quickly that belief is a very powerful tool. Where we focus our beliefs, and our intent is how we direct our power and that spirituality is not one-size-fits-all; “the truth” is vast. But don’t get me wrong—I love the bible. If you can read Psalms, you can read Palms. I have adopted many rituals, crafts, and learnings into my spiritual practice.

In the past, I would get readings done every couple of months or so. Some of them would bring me to tears—good and bad. Some I would walk away up-the f*ck-set feeling like I was read for filth. And honestly, sometimes I would feel like they didn’t hit.

In 2022, I found a deck of Tarot cards at a friend’s house who admitted he bought off of a girl at a gas station because he thought they looked cool, and they definitely did. If you are here, you’ve probably seen them. They have a luminescent finish, and they are in Korean. I opened them up and started to shuffle them and it just felt right. In that moment, even he knew they were meant for me.

My spiritual journey is ever-growing and ever flowing.

If you are new to Tarot, get readings regularly, or are a reader yourself—I would love to connect with you.

To open up on a spiritual level is very special to me, so thank you for your trust.
